CooperSurgical Solution Recall
On December 5, 2023, CooperSurgical issued an Urgent Recall on its embryo solution that is used in its IVF process.
The solution, intended to assist with development of IVF embryos, was recalled due to the risk of “impaired embryo development prior to the blastocyst stage.” This is a significant loss for fertility clinic patients who may have used this product in hopes of becoming pregnant through IVF.
CooperSurgical is one of two companies that issued product recalls in 2023 to assist patients with IVF procedures.
On January 16, 2023, Fujifilm Irvine Scientific issued a Class 2 Device Recall for their Fujifilm Oil for Embryo Culture due to detecting oil toxicity in several lots of Culture products.
The Fujifilm oil is used for in vitro fertilization procedures to protect the embryos from evaporation. Because of the toxicity found in the oil, the impact has been detrimental to couples who have lost viable embryos during the procedure.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2.3 percent of all infants born yearly in the United States are conceived using assisted reproductive technology, with in vitro fertilization (IVF) being the main form.
Claims are being filed against CooperSurgical throughout the United States.
