Thousands Face Hip Revision Surgery From Recalled Implants

The Greensboro, N.C., attorneys at Ward Black Law continue to follow the progression of claims and lawsuits against Stryker® Orthopaedics and its partners in the wake of their recall of the Stryker® Rejuvenate hip implant device and related ABG II Modular-Neck Hip Stem devices. The faulty devices have left many Americans who received the implant in an artificial hip replacement surgery facing a painful hip revision surgery to repair damage done by failed devices.

Other patients are in a similar plight after receiving metal hip implants manufactured by DePuy, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson. Bloomberg recently reported that sources say total settlements to patients in the U.S. could exceed 3 billion dollars in those cases, with potential payments of more than $300,000 to individuals filing claims. DePuy recalled 37,000 of its ASR hip replacement implants in the U.S. in 2010.

Patients with defective implants are not the only ones suffering in the midst of these recalls. Some medical professionals are struggling as the line for patients with hip revision surgery needs continues to grow. Dr. Robert Zann has performed more than 100 of the delicate procedures in the last year, and expects many more similar operations in the days ahead, according to a recent article from the Palm Beach Post.

Repairing the damage done in these cases is often not easy after an initial artificial hip replacement procedure has been performed. Bone and tissue damage from defective implants complicate these costly surgeries immensely.

Patients with faulty devices suffer from a wide range of side-effects and symptoms including pain, metallosis (metal poisoning), bone, nerve or muscle damage and more. You can read more about these in our information overview page.
