Our Community
Giving Back
At Ward Black Law, we care about our community. Our work puts us face to face with those in need every day, and it is our calling to do what we can to help, both inside and outside the courtroom.
Our Greensboro team is made up of attorneys and staff who go beyond managing cases. We strive to make a real difference in the lives of our clients, our employees, and our community. We are proud to serve our North Carolina neighbors and our global family by treating others with compassion, contributing to worthy causes, and donating our time.
Ward Black Law’s Commitment to Outreach
Principal attorney Janet Ward Black and the entire team at Ward Black Law are passionate about investing in our local and international communities. Since the founding of Ward Black Law in 2006, we have committed our time and resources to outreach efforts such as providing free legal services to those in need, championing Christian values, and so much more.
We believe that community outreach is an essential part of promoting equality and fair opportunities for all of our neighbors. In 2008, while serving as the President of the North Carolina Bar Association, Janet Ward Black championed an initiative known as “4ALL.” The Statewide Service Day is an annual call-a-lawyer pro bono program that engages hundreds of volunteer attorneys in providing free legal information to thousands of North Carolinians.
Ward Black Law also partners with several nonprofit organizations to offer help and improve lives worldwide. Janet Ward Black, Ward Black Law staff, and our friends and families make yearly trips to developing countries to help build affordable homes and houses of worship. We are also involved in local and international outreach efforts for young people, doing everything we can to bring positive change to impoverished and at-risk children.

Our International Outreach Efforts
Our international outreach efforts have taken us all over the world, including to Honduras, where we have supported Habitat for Humanity’s noble cause for many years. Nearly a dozen staff members from Ward Black Law have traveled to Honduras to build homes for the needy and broaden the scope of our worldwide perspective.
Janet Ward Black has also visited Africa, China, India, and Vietnam on behalf of International Cooperating Ministries (ICM), a Virginia-based nonprofit dedicated to supporting Christian congregations in developing areas. Since its inception in 1988, ICM has constructed thousands of churches in more than 50 countries, with hundreds more planned or currently under construction.
ICM is a faith-based organization committed to inspiring real change and devotes 100 percent of the donations it receives directly to its charitable projects. In addition to its Church Building Program, ICM also coordinates devotional Bible studies throughout the world. Janet Ward Black is a long-time supporter of ICM and has been inspired to share her enthusiasm for the cause by presenting speeches to groups all over North Carolina.
Our Values and The 700 Club
In the summer of 2020, the Christian Broadcast Network’s 700 Club aired a segment featuring the team at Ward Black Law. In the feature called “Doing the Impossible to Bless Others,” the 700 Club focused on our firm’s commitment to contribute 10 percent of our revenue to communities in North Carolina and around the world.
Founded in 1966, the 700 Club is a show on the Christian Broadcast Network hosted by Pat Robertson and other prominent Christian humanitarians. The show highlights international news stories relating to Christian values and lifestyles.
In its “Doing the Impossible to Bless Others” segment, the 700 Club featured a charitable giving program launched by Ward Black Law in 2013. During Christmastime 2012, Janet Ward Black was overcome by the feeling that God was calling her to tithe 10 percent of her business revenue in addition to her personal income.
During internal company meetings, some staff members expressed concerns over whether our then-new firm could even afford to pledge such a substantial amount. However, inspired by our values, our firm founded a team we called “The Tithe Team” and set out to do whatever the Lord called us to do.
Once we began to move in that direction, we not only managed to keep up with our commitment month after month, we also experienced astonishing growth as a firm. Our faith has allowed us to thrive as we assist dozens of worthy organizations and, in doing so, touch countless lives.
The Ward Black Law Tithe Team
The Tithe Team of Ward Black Law has been working together since 2003. Our current team is made up of 6 members. We tithe 10% of our gross revenue each month.
Determining how we direct our tithe is based on Matthew 25:34-40 (hungry, thirsty, stranger, naked, sick, prison) and Deuteronomy 26:12 (Levites, orphans & widows).
We work with and support over a hundred nonprofits (Local, National & International). We ask that our nonprofits keep any donations that we make anonymous and that they use the donation to try and get matching gifts.
On the first Thursday of every month, we have a day of prayer. Each member on the tithe team takes an hour and we pray over our employees, their families and all our nonprofits/organizations.
We also know the value of community. So in an effort to bring together the community of non-profits we partner with, we host a quarterly Zoom Meet & Greet for selected partners and our employees. This time allows our nonprofit friends to learn more about each other and for our employees to learn about the organizations that we support.
Each month we pray over our tithe funds and where the Lord is leading us to help. We believe our business is really God’s business. SO we seek His counsel on what He would have us do.
Here are just a few of our cherished non-profit friends. We are blessed to come alongside them on their journey of serving those in need around us.
